Jones High School Recognizes Individuals And Organizations At ACCO Conference
An early morning fire on December 10, 2007 destroyed our Jones High School, school officials told a group of Oklahoma county commissioners at their Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma, (ACCO) Spring Conference, as they recognized a few individuals and organizations for their help during the disaster.
Principal Carl Johnson said at the time of the blaze he was not sure when or if classes for the high school would resume. “The number one issue at that time was for us to continue to provide an education,” Johnson said. “With the help of many individuals and organizations in the state we were able to resume classes right after the winter break,” Johnson said.
Dr. Mike Steele, Jones Public School Superintendent, said that Douglas Wright with Oklahoma State University’s Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) had secured several local companies in donating materials for the project, as well as all hauling costs, and had contacted our local county commissioner for help in getting the school ready to re-open for classes. “I want to thank Douglas Wright, and Burns Hargis with Oklahoma State University, along with; Ben Rempe with Martin-Marietta Aggregates, Carmelita Wells with Madewell and Madewell, Congresswoman Mary Fallin and Field Representative Todd Pauley, and of course our wonderful Oklahoma County Commissioner Willa Johnson for their outstanding efforts on behalf of Jones High School,” Steele said.

Douglas A. Wright , LTAP Program Manager and OSU President Burns Hargis are recognized for the help they gave to the Jones Public School system.
